NaNo What?

October 20, 2010

After a brief moving hiatus, Wino Writers are back in action! And we’ve decided to take the challenge and enter NaNoWriMo aka National Novel Writing Month, which is the month of November.  Fitting.

Beginning Nov. 1, participants are challenged to write a 175 page (50,000 word) novel by midnight on Nov. 30.

It’s basically the big brother to the 3-Day Novel Contest, which we participated in in 2009.

Are you ready to bust out a novel in one month?  Think you’ve got the cojones to see it through?  Do you have a plot you’ve been dying to spin out, but haven’t had that much needed push?  If so, join us and sign up!!

The Deadline: August 15, 2008
The Reward: $1,000, and publication in Opium7.
The Cost: $10 for a single entry; $17.50 for two
How to Submit: Send your story to OpiumPrize@gmail.com (after you’ve paid)
The Odds: We can’t know until all entries are in, but we publish many stories from our contests (from our most recent contest: 10 appear in Opium6, over 30 on OpiumMagazine.com).

The 3-Day Novel Contest

May 21, 2008

In the spirit of learning how to pump out new work in record time, I’m going to do the ridiculously impossible, slit-your-wrist 3-day novel contest this year. Join me Wino Writers! It is from Aug. 30 – Sept. 1. By all accounts, this is a hellacious exercise (I read about it in Poets&Writers), but one that will force you to write. However, you can have an outline already prepared. The cost is $50 and the prizes are as follows:

Grand Prize: Publication (Awesome)
2nd Prize: $500 (Not bad)
3rd Prize: $100 (Could use it)
And a literary prize pack for each shortlisted entrant. (Intriguing)

To sign up, read the rules and get your registration in the mail by August 28.

Then we can all come back here and grip about our experiences.
